What is easiest drywall fix for a 2 foot by 6 foot water damaged ceiling, with an 8 inch unused light fixture?

in the middle. I do not know if it has power. Should I hammer it out, test the circuit, remove the fixture and cover it with drywall? Or should I cut out the drywall around it? Thank you.
