Why do different Christians make different claims about Hell?

I think Christianity is pretty clear on Hell. If I were to describe my home town to you I would say some things about it and my neighbour would probably say something entirely different. Does this make my home town a false place. Hell is a big place and lots will be going on. The worse is to be separated from God forever.
